Robert J. Steffney, affectionately known as "Fat Bob," passed away peacefully at his home in Philadelphia on Saturday, July 6th, 2024, at the age of 50, surrounded by his loving wife and children after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Kensington, Rob took immense pride in his roots, a sentiment that remained central throughout his life. Together with his wife Kate, he found a home in Port Richmond, where they nurtured their family and created lasting memories. Rob was a passionate sports fan, known for his spirited support of the Eagles and Phillies. He shared his love of comics with his children, often attending Comic Con together and immersing them in the Marvel universe. Rob cherished family traditions, particularly decorating the Christmas tree with his family while playing Christmas music, which he enjoyed listening to year-round. Despite facing a challenging diagnosis, Rob approached life with bravery and resolve, surpassing expectations during his 3 1/2-year battle with cancer. His legacy lives on through his children, Tori and Robby, whom he adored beyond measure. In honoring Rob's memory, his wife Kate and daughter Tori encourage everyone to cherish every moment with their children and to remember his spirited motto for the Phillies in tough times.
Rob is survived by his devoted wife of 17 years, Kate (Owens), his beloved children Tori and Robby, his sister Beatrice McCall, and his mother and father-in-law Sean and Terri Owens. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Steffney (McCall). Rob will be fondly remembered by his nephews; Eric, Michael, Tyler, Salvi, and Jack. His nieces; Brianna, Kayla, Aliyah, Gracie, and Eva. His in-laws Mike Owens (Colleen), and Mollie Mazzotta (Sal). His goddaughter Madelyn, extended family, and lifelong friends from Kensington, who will continue sharing stories of "Fat Bob" to keep his memory alive. Rob's presence in the lives of all who knew him will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
In honor of Rob, we would love if everyone would wear their favorite Phillies, Eagles, or Marvel attire at his celebration of life.
Family and friends are invited to his viewing and funeral Tuesday July 16th from 10 AM to 12 noon at the Slabinski Sucharski Funeral Home 2614 Orthodox Street. Words of Remembrance will be spoken at noon. A luncheon will follow.
