Maryann G. Choquet

Maryann Choquet passed away peacefully on October 7, 2023 at the age of 78. She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Hollins (Michael); her grandchildren: Norman Fosbenner, Marie Dennis (Drew), Joanna Kovac (John), and Melissa, Albert, and David Waskiewicz; her great-grandson Alexander Dennis; her sisters, Annamarie Flanagan and Carolann Waskiewicz; and six brothers. She is predeceased by her parents, Marie and Joseph Flanagan, and her sister Arlene Bubb.

The oldest of ten, Maryann helped to raise her younger siblings in her characteristic unselfish manner. She was an excellent student who loved learning and particularly enjoyed math and French, but left school at age sixteen to help support the family. Maryann was an extremely hard worker, almost always holding two jobs throughout her life. She worked for many years at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children as the overnight telephone operator, spending her days helping to care for her grandchildren. Maryann enjoyed cheering them on at soccer and basketball games, chauffering them around to school and friends' houses, drilling them on the multiplication tables, and sharing words of wisdom and encouragement, often peppered with jokes and mild obscenities.

Everyone loved 'Gram,' as she was widely known, for her sense of humor and tough, no-nonsense exterior which belied her warm, loving heart. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her family. Maryann was a strong and independent woman, bravely taking on all of the challenges life threw at her, and setting that example for her granddaughters.

She loved going down the shore, Elvis Presley, any and all desserts, hunting for a bargain, and the poem "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer. Maryann will be tenderly remembered and sorely missed by her family. 

Relatives and friends are invited to gather Monday, October 16, 2023 from 9:30am -11am at the Slabinski Sucharski Funeral Home, 2614 Orthdox St., Phila., PA 19137. (Parking on Premises) Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30am at St. George Church, 2700 East Venango St., Phila., PA 19134. Interment Greenmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maryann's memory to Little Flower High School, 1000 W Lycoming St, Philadelphia, PA 19140 would be appreciated by her family.
