Janina Mavromatis
In Loving Memory
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Janina Mavromatis on April 9th 2025, at the age of 68, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Poland, Janina immigrated to the United States in search of a better life and a hopeful future. She carried with her a resilient spirit, a strong work ethic, and deep love for her family and heritage. Through every challenge and joy, she remained full of grace, wisdom, and unwavering strength.
Janina bravely fought small cell lung cancer for two years, facing each day with courage, dignity, and her quiet determination. Even in the midst of her battle, she continued to care for and uplift those around her.
She was the heart of her family—a devoted mother, cherished friend, and loving Babcia. Her granddaughter, Sophia, was her greatest joy. Janina poured her love into every meal she made, every story she told, and every hug she gave. She also had a deep love for animals, gardening, and flowers—her home was always surrounded by beautiful blooms, a reflection of the care and beauty she nurtured in every part of her life.
Janina now joins her beloved husband, John, who passed away in 2018. Their love was a constant in her life, and we take comfort in knowing they are together once again.
She is survived by her son Christopher Mavromatis and daughter Elizabeth Mariani (Daniel) and many extended family members, including her mother, Maria Glen, who still resides in Poland and her friends who were blessed to know her.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Tuesday April 15, 2025 from 6-8pm at the Slabinski Sucharski Funeral Home, 2614 Orthodox Street, Phila., PA 19137. (Parking on premises). An additional visitation and funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 beginning at 11:30am at the Chapel on the grounds of Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine Cemetery. Her funeral mass will begin at 12:30pm. Interment Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery.
Though she has left this world, Janina's love, strength, and the beauty she nurtured will continue to blossom in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in peace, reunited with John and held forever in our hearts.
