Francis S. Gulba, 91, of 1405 Oakmont St. died Sunday morning, August 28 at St. Joseph's Manor, Meadowbrook, following a 2 year battle with cancer.
Born in Shamokin on March 6, 1925, he was a son of the late Stanley and Mary (Gallick) Gulba.
Following graduation from Shamokin High School in 1943, he served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He continued serving the military after the war, participating in the Bikini Atoll atomic bomb tests and subsequently working in the personnel office of the 4th Naval District at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyards. Following this position, he went to work as a dedicated employee at the Frankford Arsenal where he retired in January, 1980 as Chief, Recruitment and Placement Division.
Beloved husband of the late Xenia (nee Mausley). Brother to Eleanor Donahue, Bill Zimmerman, and the late Charles, Leonard and Joseph. Survivors include a son, Edward, Neptune, NJ; a daughter, Denise McCaffery (Kevin), Cape May, NJ; two grandsons, Sean and Brett McCaffery. A son, Francis, died in 1989.
Friends and relatives are invited to the viewing Wednesday 8/31/16 6-8PM at Slabinski Funeral Home 2614 Orthodox Street, Philadelphia, PA 19137. Viewing Thursday 9/1/16 10-11AM at Chowka Funeral Home 114 North Shamokin Street, Shamokin, PA 17872. Followed by a mass at Mother Cabrini. Burial will be in Transfiguration Cemetery.
