Ethel Szarek

Ethel Szarek, age 97,  passed away on November 23, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Joseph. Loving mother of Mary Ann Vengels (the late Wayne), Charlotte Lavanga (Rob), Joseph Szarek Jr. (Terry) and the late Sally Haigh. Devoted grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Ethel was predeceased by her grandchildren Jessica and Patric and her siblings Floyd and James Rash. Ethel spent most of her life working as a nurse, deeply devoted to her passion of caring for others. She briefly worked at the FBI too. If you would ask her about her time there, she would say "I would tell you, but then I have to kill you." This always brought lots of laughter to all around her. Her hobbies included crocheting, watching general hospital, enjoying her soup, rooting on the Philadelphia sports teams and she had a deep love for her pets. Ethel will be sadly missed by her family, neighbors and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing and funeral Thursday, November 30, 2023 beginning at 9am at the Slabinski Sucharski Funeral Home, 2614 Orthodox St. Philadelphia, PA 19137. Religious services will begin at 11am. Interment Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
