Edwin A. Lemanowicz (extended obituary)

LEMANOWICZ Edwin Alfred Lemanowicz, of the Bridesburg section in Philadelphia, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of All Souls Day with his loving wife Dolores by his side. Edwin (a.k.a. Dad, Dziadzi and Tom) was married to Dolores for 66 years and was blessed with seven beautiful children; Thomas Lemanowicz, Patricia DiGiacomo (Jody), James Lemanowicz (Dianne), Steven Lemanowicz (Candy), Mary Muccie (Anthony), Susan Fiocco (Joseph), and Joan Link (James), 16 grandchildren, 5 great- grandchildren, and three more soon to arrive. Edwin is survived by his sister, Dorothy Lemanowicz and was preceded in death by brothers Leonard and Edward (Edge). Edwin was truly "the Salt of the Earth" and a perfect example of how to live a Christian life. He was there to help whoever needed him and never sought credit for any of his good deeds. Edwin could fix anything, anytime, anywhere and amazed his family with his "can do" attitude to any problem. He opened his home to relatives in need and successfully provided for and protected the entire extended Lemanowicz family. Edwin served our country proudly beginning at the age of 18. As a member of the 160th Engineer Combat Battalion arriving in Omaha Beach, France on August 12, 1944, he travelled through 56 areas of combat during 270 days and played a critical role in eliminating some of the most horrible evil that ever plagued this blessed world. Edwin never felt the need to share the details of the horror that he undoubtedly witnessed but chose to focus his attention on working hard and providing for his loving family that had been so fortunate to have him as their own. Edwin will be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. He has left a legacy that will surely survive for generations. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Tuesday 9-10:45AM at the Slabinski Funeral Home, 2614 Orthodox Street, Philadelphia, PA 19137. Funeral Mass will begin at 11AM at St. John Cantius Church. Interment Holy Redeemer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edwin's memory to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 12265 Townsend Rd., Phila.,PA 19154 would be appreciated by his family.
