Edward J McCloskey, passed away on February 24, 2021. Beloved husband of Regina "Jean" nee Abramczyk for 61 years. Devoted father of Edward J McCloskey Jr and Cheryl Ann Tommassello (Bob). Proud grandfather of Alexander McCloskey, Salvatore Tommassello, and Gabrielle McCloskey. Also survived by loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Born and raised in Fishtown, Ed attended Holy Name of Jesus Grade School and then went on to attend West Catholic High School for Boys. In September 1959, he married the love of his life Jean. Ed made the brave choice of joining the U.S. Army where he served as a Medical Specialist and received commendations for being an expert rifleman. In 1966, Ed joined the Philadelphia Police Department. He was assigned to the 4thdistrict. Throughout his career, he served in the Chief Inspectors Squad, Traffic Division, and the Headquarters Investigation Unit. After his retirement from the Police Department, Ed being the type of person who could not sit still, spent the next 12 years working for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation as a Drivers License Examiner until he retired in 2004. He also served as the 2nd Vice President of the Polish Police Association of Philadelphia for many years. Ed loved building things and working with his hands. He would build it before he ever bought it. "We'll come along and make it ourselves!" is what he would say.
Ed always enjoyed spending time at the shore, going out to dinner with family and friends, and he loved a good party. He loved dancing the polka with Jean and occasionally would pick up a microphone and start singing. He was the life of the party.
Ed's two children, Eddie and Cheryl are his pride and joy. His three grandchildren, Alec, Sal and Gabrielle mean the world to him.
The most important thing to Ed was being with his family and knowing that they were always being careful and safe. His most popular words "Call me when you get home".
