Andrew Peter Sauer, Sr.
Andrew Peter Sauer, Sr., a hardworking and skilled upholsterer, passed away on October 2, 2023 peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the age of 99 at his residence in Philadelphia, PA. Born on June 28, 1924, in Philadelphia, to Joseph and Elizabeth Sauer. He was the loving husband of the late Agnes (nee Lemanski) Sauer.
Andrew's dedication to his craft was unparalleled. He honed his skills as an upholsterer and took great pride in his work. His commitment to excellence made him an invaluable asset throughout his career. Andrew's work ethic and attention to detail were commendable traits that earned him the respect of his colleagues and clients alike.
Though Andrew's education at North Catholic High School for boys was cut short when he left to join the workforce, he continued to learn and adapt throughout his life. He possessed a curious mind and a hunger for knowledge that extended beyond any formal education.
A proud US Army veteran, Andrew served in the 87th Infantry Division during World War II. His military service showcased both bravery and intellect as he worked as a radio operator and translator. Fluent in both English and German, Andrew's linguistic abilities proved invaluable to the mission. As he made his way to Italy on the USS Willard during the war, he even learned how to box and left a mark by winning an impressive 13 matches.
Andrew's dedication to duty extended far beyond his military service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He leaves behind cherished memories that will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched. He loved to read, play pinochle, watching movies, especially westerns. He loved animals, especially dogs. Andrew rooted for his hometown Philadelphia sports teams. He enjoyed spending lots of time with his grandchildren. They have fond memories of him taking them out trick or treating, taking them to the local swim club and going to various places always enjoying the smiles on their faces.
A devoted son, husband, father, grandpop and role model, he is survived by his beloved children, son Andrew P. Sauer Jr., and daughter Diana Alvarez (Alex), Andrew has left behind a legacy of love and strength. His memory will live on through his grandchildren Jonathan Alvarez and Andrea Chapman (Derek). Additionally, he is survived by his nieces, nephews, and their families, all of whom cherished his presence in their lives.
Relatives and friends are invited to honor and remember Andrew's life atthe Nulty Funeral Home, located at 2614 Orthodox Street, Philadelphia, PA 19137. The visitation will take place on October 7, 2023, from 1 PM to 3PM. On October 7, 2023, a prayer service will commence at 2:45 PM, followed by the interment on October 10, 2023, at Oakland Cemetery. The burial will take place from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at 898 Adams Ave in Philadelphia. There will be final prayers and military honors rendered at that time.
Andrew Peter Sauer, Sr. will always be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his profession and his love for his family. His commitment to excellence and vibrant spirit serve as an inspiration for all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
