Alvin Rhine

Alvin Norman Rhine Jr., 80, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on March 31st, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Al was born on July 12th, 1944, and was raised by his mother, Ethel Rhine (nee Hunter) and father, Alvin Norman Rhine Sr. in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia. He attended Lincoln High School, and pursued a career as a Truck Driver for the Teamsters Local 107. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who worked very hard to provide for his family. He was a member of the original Uptown String Band for 25 years where he made many friends who became family. Some of Al’s favorite things in life were to spend time with his grandchildren, cracking open a cold Budweiser with a Marlboro Light sitting on Benny’s tailgate, and spending time with his best friend Sandy down at his happy place, Gandy’s Beach Marina.

Al was preceded in death by Rosemary Rhine (nee Tully) (1945-2018). Survived by his dear sister Doris (Lonnie). Loving daughters Robin (Jeff), Kelly (Kenny), Theresa (Dave), Linda (Mark). His loyal grandchildren Richie (Suzann), Anthony (Emily), Ryan (Ashley), Brandon (Julia), Dylan, Alex, Abby, Deegan, and his great-grandchildren Frankie and Josie. Also survived by his loving nieces and their families.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing on Saturday, April 5th, from 9-11 AM at Slabinski Funeral Home 2614 Orthodox Street. His funeral service begins at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, please make your donations to the Philadelphia SPCA.
