Albert Waskiewicz, Jr.

d. August 23, 2024

Philadelphia

Albert P. Waskiewicz Jr. passed away unexpectedly on August 23, 2024, at the age of 63. Albert, affectionately known to many as “Big Al” is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carol, and his three children, Melissa, Albert III, and David (Victoria). Big Al also leaves behind his brother Peter Waskiewicz and his son Jaxson, sister Michelle Shields (Mark) and their daughters Ellie and Lexi, his sister-in-law and his many brothers-in-law. Big Al will also be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Big Al was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Keesey, his father, Albert Waskiewicz Sr., and his brother, David E. Waskiewicz.

A Bridesburg native his entire life, Big Al formed many lifelong friendships. Al was a Saint John Cantius graduate and a proud 1979 graduate of Northeast Catholic High School, where he continued his support of his alma mater by serving as the Alumni Association’s President from 2016-2019.

Al was a dedicated man and wore his heart on his sleeve in everything he did. Big Al and his wife Carol took on a business adventure in 1989 opening Philadelphia Boat Supply. Being avid boaters themselves, they were your “go to” people for all your boating needs. Boaters up and down the river would stop in, not only for parts or service, but for conversations with Big Al. You could always count on seeing Big Al at Philadelphia Boat with a cigar in mouth ready to talk, sometimes longer than you planned. Big Al and his vision for Philadelphia Boat Supply continued to grow and he successfully operated the business for 35 years until his passing.

Big Al’s passion for boating began at a young age. Big Al was a Gold Card Member of the Bridesburg Outboard Club where he would be celebrating his 50th year as a member in the upcoming year. He served many titles with BOC by serving on the Board of Directors for many years, and was proud to be able to witness the changes and growth in his Club. In addition to his time on the Board of Directors, Big Al served as the President of the Pennsylvania Boating Association, traveling the state and connecting with all boaters. His love for boating created many fond memories for him and his family that he cherished his entire life.

Big Al will be remembered for his charismatic personality, his love for his family, and his love for his friends. He will also be remembered for his love of cigars, his Man Cave, and his annual Memorial Day Party. Big Al is leaving a void in the hearts of many, but his memory and his many stories will continue his legacy. Although his story was far from finished, Big Al lived a life well-lived and he will be sorely missed.
